Bresnan Communications is passionate about Internet Safety year-round, but had wanted to take the opportunity to highlight this important social issue during the month of February – Bresnan Internet Safety Month. Throughout the Month, and beyond, Bresnan Communications, via the Bresnan Safety Net, will hold various Internet Safety programs and events within the communities Bresnan serves. One type of event taking place, utilizes a first of its kind partnership by Bresnan and the Missoula Children’s Theatre. Unlike any other Internet safety program in existence, the Bresnan Communications’ Safety Net Program creates an opportunity for children and their families to learn about Internet safety by encouraging their creativity and involvement in a special Safety Net theatrical assembly. The portion of the program known as the Bresnan Safety Net assembly will engages kids with an interactive 45-minute program, featuring the blundering yet endearing character, Captain Internet, who along with his more well-informed co-host will teach the students how to make smart decisions while using the Internet. The program initiates discussion and role playing around this important subject, and leaves kids with a series of simple, common sense safety-rules. Another event format is that of a FBI Lunch and Learn, featuring FBI Agents from the Montana Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce and the Wyoming Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce. As part of this program, Bresnan provides lunch, child fingerprinting, and informational packets to students and their parents, as the dedicated agents present a realistic, no nonsense view of what really goes on, on the internet. There is also a parents-only session directly after the joint session, where parents can ask those tough questions and discuss things that they might not feel comfortable talking about in front of their kids. Topics covered include internet predators, identity theft, cyber-bullying, and posting of personal and inappropriate information and photos on the internet.Other local events will take place including child fingerprinting events and programming created in conjunction with local law enforcement.
