The video game rating system established by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) is the newest yet probably the most descriptive and effective rating system devised to date. Virtually every title produced by major game developers for retail sale today carries an ESRB rating and content descriptors. In addition to the seven ratings, the ESRB has over 30 different content descriptors that it uses to provide highly detailed information about the games. The ESRB, established in 1994 by the video game industry, rates over 1,000 games per year. To view the rating system online visit the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) |
